An Update ...

October 25, 2007 / by sasklily

My son left home in his late teens and went to the city. For a while he did very well, had a job and girlfriend and starting out on his life.
However, as so many do in these times, he did some experimenting and has been paying a very high price since. Six months on crystal meth. did it's job and he has not been well ever since. He came home and finally I got some help, or so I thought, but all they did was shoot him full of drugs and send him out.
He has Affected Schizaphenia Disorder now but some drs. believe he is possibly Bi-polar. He also acquired Hepatitis C last summer and will be going into an Interferon program this winter. He has been on a roller coaster for 10 years, and his last bout with the depression was too much for him. He hadn't slept for three days and took all his prescribed medications. When it started to hit him he told me what he'd done, (he stays with me), and I rushed him to the hospital. They had to get an airway in so fast they couldn't pump his stomach and he went down further and further. He was down to breathing 5 times a minute and the ventilator was doing the rest.
But, Thank God, he's back.
I forced the hospital to keep him, which they fought every bit of the way, but I have finally gotten some positive help by moving him into a different health district and getting him into an approved home to care for him.
At my age, I realized that I had to get him more independent of me, and in a bigger city there will be more opportunities and care for him.
So we have had a difficult 10 years but things are looking a little brighter in the last month.
He is such a nice young man, gentle and a wonderful sense of humor. And so good-looking.
Of course, I may be a little prejudiced!
